Artwork Number 11

Dizzy Soiree

Artwork Description

This is the first of a series of pieces where Michael was “diving into my subconscious.”

As Michael views this piece and its layers, time folds and an almost Alice-in-Wonderland like world appears for him.

“There is a boy in the bottom left corner.

There are people appearing at a soiree. And the tin man is in there too. Caterpillars even.

There are a lot of black people in this one. But they have disappeared in our society. We live without seeing them.

The word ‘ego’ is in the white scribble on the left lower corner.”

“So what does it all mean?” I ask my father and then wait in eager anticipation as his answers come slower than before as he takes his time to collect his thoughts and then the ‘time’ to get his physical body to form the words to express those thoughts. My fingers are always ready at the keyboard to capture what comes through.

And then he shares…..“The painting is there to sit in the room to give people at the dinner party something to look at and puzzle over when the conversation gets boring and when the conversation starts at all.

It’s why you buy one of the big ones.

People should want to come back to finish the puzzle.

Its value can be seen in the amount of (not just monetary, like something you pick up at the supermarket), its value is extended to the connection.

People want to be given solutions to every problem, when the solution to every problem is not relevant. What is the point of owning a puzzle, if you get the solution delivered with the bloody question. That doesn't seem to be a right allocation of resources.

So if you are wanting to know the secret then you're too lazy to be given it.

If you want a clue. The clue is YOU.

It took me a while to work that out. And nobody told me you could do that.”

This artwork is a puzzle. No solutions given. Over to you.
